Drawing & Painting - Drawing for Beginners

In this friendly class for complete beginners, you will be taught, step by step, the basics of drawing.

What will we cover?

All the basic drawing techniques will be covered. You will learn about proportion, shading/tone, blending, hatching and how to use perspective through varied subject matter from landscape, still life, figure drawing, animals, flowers/plants and referencing the old masters.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is for anyone who would like to learn the basics of drawing and who is a complete beginner.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Your tutor uses mainly harder mechanical pencils ie 2H grade but also H & HB, so please bring in 2H, H and HB pencils, a sharpener and a rubber.

You will also need Cartridge paper to draw on to (minimum 130gsm, not photocopier paper, the number is written on the sketch pad, the higher the number, the thicker the paper) - Your tutor uses 300gsm watercolour paper as a wash can be added if required at a later time, but this is optional.

Fineline pens will also be used in the course 0.3mm, 0.5mm & 0.7mm are a good range of sizes.

Your tutor will advise you on which pens to purchase in the first lesson.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Continue onto Drawing & Illustration classes with the same tutor, or consider other drawing classes such as life drawing or drawing and painting classes.
