Course description

Drawing & Painting - Landscape Workshop

Drawing & Painting - Landscape Workshop [LDF6396G]: Overview

This one day course will establish some key acrylic/oil painting methods through the use of quick sketches made either from images, or if the weather fine, on the spot around the centre. These will then be developed into a painting.

What will we cover?
You will initially develop a series of quick timed studies focusing on speed and intuitive responses to a subject.
You will then be encouraged to use these sketches to develop a painting in oil or acrylic.
There will be useful demonstrations and discussion of techniques that will help you gain confidence in using your materials and may encourage you to join a longer course in order to develop further.
There will be a review of work through group discussion and one to one support.
The overall aim is to not only complete a finished painting, but to have fun, achieve personal expression and learn more about how to develop your sketches.
This could act as an extension to other painting courses attended or as a one off workshop

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

Some experience of painting would be helpful, but this is not essential. Useful for anyone needing a refresher or who wants to know more about painting in general.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Bring whatever acrylic/oil materials you may already have purchased. If new, please bring a basic set of acrylic paints. Acrylic board or canvas at least A3 or above. A range of flat and round acrylic brushes, a palette, an A5 sketchbook, ruler, soft pencil, rubber, paper/towel roll and masking tape
It will also be useful to have some web images of landscapes in case the weather is bad and we can’t sketch outside.
Tracing paper would be useful but not essential as the tutor will have some.

What can I do when I finish the course?

To progress on to other courses in another media, to join other art groups, societies or to develop further within the same class, meet like minded people and make friends

Additional information

Please bring lots of tissues a cloth for cleaning and old clothes

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible.
