Course description

Flower Arranging

Flower Arranging [HDF4512G]: Overview

The aim of the course is to learn about flowers in season, how to look after them and use them, along with seasonal foliage in a variety of floral arrangements.

What will we cover?

You will become confident in looking after your flowers and how to use them in your floral arrangements. You will also be able to create modern and traditional arrangements. Most of the principles and elements of design will become familiar to you as you create harmonious designs.

We will also learn how to make a handtied bouquet that is aqua packed and wrapped.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is suitable for all levels of ability. No previous experience is necessary – just enthusiasm and a love of flowers. Each week there will be new techniques and designs which will also be appropriate for the returning learner.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

For the first class you will need:
Equipment: Scissors, bucket for flowers, plastic sheet or cloth to work on, small knife, notebook and pen.
Materials: A list of materials will be sent out prior to the start date. Each week you will be given guidance on suitable materials, flowers and foliage to bring and/or purchase for the following week.
You may wish to bring a camera to record your work.

It is essential that you wear closed toe shoes (not sandals or flip flops) and bring an apron or wear old clothes.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Further short courses and weekly classes are available that cover a range of topics from seasonal specialities to wedding flowers and themed designs. You may also wish to go on and study for a recognised qualification.

Additional information

The fee does not cover the cost of materials – you will need to purchase these as well as the equipment that you use. Each week you will be expected to purchase materials to create your designs.
