Course description

Meditation - Introduction to Mindfulness

Overview

Mindfulness is a starting point to wellbeing and long term mental and physical health, by helping you appreciate the "here and now". Further practice and guidance can provide emotional healing and profound change in how you see yourself relating to the world and with more advanced practice moving into spiritual awareness.

What will we cover?

This course aims to help you experience improved health & wellbeing and reduce stress, through the regular practice of mindfulness techniques. It will introduce you to the foundations of mindfulness. It will give you the tools to continue practising mindfulness yourself, in your own time at home, work and play.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

No previous experience is necessary. All are welcome.

Those who have tried mindfulness in the past and are struggling to get past the 'monkey mind' level, may find this course useful in moving past that critical step.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

No equipment is required as we will be sitting on chairs. Comfortable, loose clothing should be worn and if you have difficulty sitting upright then please bring an appropriate cushion to help with this.

You may wish to take notes, if so, please bring along a pen and paper to write on. All lesson slides and additional written information on the techniques discussed will be provided.

What can I do when I finish the course?

The tutor will be able to provide guidance on further learning opportunities.

You may also be interested in other courses from our Movement and Wellbeing programme, to complement your mindfulness practice, such as Yoga or Tai Chi.

Additional information

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
