Pottery & Claywork

Pottery & Claywork [EDF4026G]: Overview

You will be given basic training and instruction in all areas of pottery and claywork

What will we cover?

If you are a beginner, you will be introduced to basic techniques of pottery – pinching, slabbing and throwing. You will learn about glazing and decorating or colouring your work.

If you have done pottery before you will be given projects, which will enhance your current pottery skills.

All learners will be taught by demonstration, group and individual tuition and hands on experience.

The tutor will give you guidance and inspire you with suggestions that will help you with your ideas and techniques. Health and safety issues will be covered.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

All abilities welcome.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

It is essential that you wear sensible closed toe shoes (not sandals or flip flops) and bring an apron or wear old clothes as pottery can be messy.

Please bring a notebook and pen.

Basic materials and technician costs are included. However, learners who choose to work on large projects may be asked to pay additional materials costs depending on size. As a guide, Individual pieces higher than 15 inches/38 cm and wider than 12 inches/35 cm would be considered as large projects.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Further pottery classes offered by Surrey Adult Learning.
