Sewing - Garment Making - Refit & Refashion Your Clothes
Overview
Do you own a much loved outfit that no longer fits? Have you bought an outfit you never wear that just needs some adjusting to become fabulous? The aim of this course is to unlock your wardrobe’s potential with stylish alterations and refashions!
What will we cover?
You will learn a range of alteration skills and up-cycling techniques to restyle and customize your clothing and accessories. Express your individual style by embellishing garments into new favourites or altering dresses, shirts, skirts sweaters and trousers for a more comfortable, fashionable and flattering fit. We will cover the essentials of alterations and refashioning using embellishing, hand sewing and machine sewing techniques. You will learn how to measure, cut, fit and finish a garment so that it fits you perfectly and is comfortable to wear.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
The course is open to all abilities, whether as a fun activity, the start of a new hobby or developing new or existing skills. This course is suitable for beginners, though basic hand and machine sewing skills would be an advantage.
As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
To the first class, bring along a basic sewing kit including fabric & small trimming scissors, hand sewing needles, dressmaking pins, sewing thread, seam ripper, tape measure, thimble, tailor’s chalk or fabric marking pen/pencil, 30cm clear ruler, paper scissors, notepad, pen, pencil and eraser.
Also bring along a couple of garments or clothing accessories that need alteration, mending or that you would like to refashion or repurpose and are happy to experiment with.
You will need to buy some materials such as: fabrics, thread, elastic, zips, snap fasteners or trimmings to alter or refashion your clothing or accessories, these will be discussed at the first lesson and throughout the course.
