Course description

The Role of the Company Secretary in Academy Trusts

Delivering company secretarial activities within academy trusts requires a strong understanding of the regulatory environment, organisational skill and preparation, and the ability to work with colleagues to meet a range of internal and external deadlines. These requirements arise in particular from the legal structure of academy trusts which are established as both companies, charities and education organisations.

This course provides delegates with a detailed view of the full range of legislative requirements, practical tips and time-saving templates to equip attendees to deliver this area of academy trust governance. Course trainers Emma Perkin and Anna Machin have ‘walked the walk’ in delivering, and advising on, company secretarial work for a range of trusts, bringing an understanding of how this role can best be navigated.

Training Course Content

By the end of the day you will have gained:

  • An understanding of the regulatory and legislative environment that informs company secretarial requirements placed on trusts
  • Details of the respective roles and responsibilities of trustees, executive leaders, finance staff and the academy trust secretary with regards to company secretarial activities
  • Practical advice on how to approach each area of delivery from fulfilling the articles and delivering filings to maintaining registers and submitting returns
  • The knowledge, tips and documentation to enable you to take on this role with confidence
