RoSPA Qualifications Level 3 Manual Handling Trainers

This accredited manual handling trainers course has been designed with the aim of developing a confident and motivated, professionally qualified manual handling trainer.

On completion of the manual handling trainers course, delegates should be able to:

Deliver bespoke manual handling training to the workforce based on a task analysis that aligns with current best practice.

Underpinned by knowledge and skills of:

  • Manual Handling Regulations 1992 and associated legislation
  • Reasons for managing manual handling risks within the workplace
  • Principles of manual handling risk assessment
  • Structure and function of the spine
  • Risk factors for back pain
  • Basic spinal biomechanics
  • Application of efficient movement principles to routine loads, non-routine loads, pushing and pulling and team handling
  • Teaching and mentoring skills that facilitate the learning and development of the workforce in relation to manual handling
  • The importance of a manual handling trainer maintaining continuing professional development.

Suitability - Who should attend?

This course is suitable for managers, supervisors, safety advisors or any individual who has responsibility to deliver manual handling training to the workforce.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

The course will test the delegates’ theoretical and practical knowledge of the syllabus. On successful completion of this Abrasive Wheel Instructors - Train the Trainer course in full, delegates will be awarded a RoSPA Certificate of Training.

Training Course Content

In this RoSPA Qualifications Level 3 Manual Handling Trainers course delegates will learn to:

  • Describe the reasons for managing manual handling risks in the workplace
  • Describe the principles and practice of manual handling risk assessments in the workplace
  • Describe how the principles of safe handling can contribute to improving health and safety and well-being within the workplace
  • Carry out and train others how to conduct a dynamic risk assessment prior to undertaking manual handling tasks
  • Apply and train others how to apply efficient movement principles and safe practice to the movement of loads
  • Produce a session plan for a manual handling training session based on a training needs analysis of the workplace
  • Plan, produce and deliver an effective manual handling training session
  • Provide learner feedback and evaluate a manual handling training session
