Our Moving and Handling People training course is a Level 3, which provides delegates with a patient handling qualification to be able to teach/mentor/coach induction and mandatory training that is bespoke to your organisational needs based on current best practice.

This Patient Manual Handling course is delivered by an experienced trainer(s) with nursing health and safety and teaching qualifications, and is scheduled around the United Kingdom and can be delivered within your own organisation.

This course leads to the Ofqual recognised RoSPA Level 3 Award for Safer People Handling Trainers qualification.

Suitability - Who should attend?

This patient manual handling course is ideal for the education and health and social care sector especially for managers, supervisors, instructors and training officers and safety professionals who have a responsibility for educating manual handling for carers/ manual handling training for nurses.

This moving and handling people training course is divided into 3 units.

Level 3 Moving and Handling People courses run at training venues throughout the UK and in-company options are available
Successful delegates that complete this course will gain a moving and handling people qualification by receiving a Level 3 Safer People Handling Trainers certificate.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

On successful completion of the written and practical assessments learners will be awarded a RoSPA level 3 award for manual handling trainer's certificate.

Training Course Content

This accredited course has been designed with the aim of developing a confident and motivated, professionally qualified safer people handling trainer, who promotes the movement of people in a safe dignified way and encourages a person-centred of approach.

On completion delegate should be able to:

Deliver bespoke patient manual handling training to the workforce based on a task analysis that aligns with the current best practice that is evidenced based.

Underpinned by the knowledge and skills of:

  • Manual Handling Regulations 1992 and associated health and safety legislation such as PUWER 1998 and LOLER 1998
  • Welfare, regulatory and human rights legislation and a balanced approach to managing manual handling risks in a person centred environment
  • The principles of risk assessment in a person centred environment
  • Structure and function of the spine
  • Risk factors for back pain
  • Basic spinal biomechanics
  • Application of efficient movement principles to the movement of people with different levels of mobility
  • Safe use of handling equipment and hoists
  • Teaching and mentoring skills that facilitate the learning and development of the workforce in relation to safer people handling
  • The importance of maintaining continuing professional development
