Course description

Certificate of Higher Education in Equine Studies

This one-year full-time course will provide you with the opportunity to develop practical management techniques including husbandry systems, integrated with the underpinning scientific theory. You will also gain an understanding of the principles of equine science in relation to anatomy and physiology, nutrition and health management.

You will be encouraged to use the underpinning academic theory to develop your reflective and analytical skills to be able to evaluate different methods of equine management, husbandry practices and training techniques, prioritising the welfare of the horse at all times.

Suitability - Who should attend?

  • UCAS Tariff Points: 48
  • GCE A Levels: 848 UCAS tariff points, to include one GCE A level grade C or above
  • Irish Certificate: 48 UCAS tariff points, to include 2 x B3 or H3 higher
  • Scottish Highers: 48 UCAS tariff points, to include 1 x B & 1 x C
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: Total (IB) Diploma point score of 24 or more
  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma: PPP
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma: MP
  • GCSEs: All applicants must hold a minimum of four GCSE passes at grade C/4 or above to include English, Maths and Science.

After completing this course, you are able to continue on to the second year of one of our Diplomas of Higher Education and, ultimately, you could then progress on to a third year and gain a full BSc (Hons) award in either Equine Performance and Business Management, Equine Behavioural Science or Equine Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation.
